F.A.Q.

Why do I have to use an agency? Can I not just pick a family from an internet site?

A You should never look for, or accept a family, that you have found on the internet. It’s not a safe way to travel and work as an au pair. Always use a reputable agency . An agency assists with the careful matching of an au pair to vetted families in all the world. Many agencies look after the same host families year after year; they know the families well and this ensures successful and safe placements. Once in the host Country, you will be well looked after by the partner’s agency you choose to use.

How long can my program be?

The length of the program depends on the law of the host Country and on the host family demands, please contact the agency for further information.

I am not happy with my host family, where can I get help?

If you cannot resolve problems directly with your host family (which should be attempted first), please contact the au pair agency that placed you with the family and they will be able to help you. Before your departure you will know the name of the partner agency and their contacts, you will be able to talk directly to someone in case of need.

What can I do to occupy myself when I am not on duty?

Like many au pairs, you may want to attend a language course at a local college; many schools have courses designed for au pairs. A porportion of your day will be set aside to allow you to study, socialise or discover the region. you may also want to join the local sports center or swimming pool; visiting the museum and organize to travel in Europe or to other typical Italian towns. Furthermore many families would be very happy if you could organize some meals from your Country, or take out the dog for a walk if they have one.

Do I need to provide the agency with a medical report and police check?

A Medical report is essential and so is a police check. It’s very important that the agency ensures that you are physically and mentally fit to work as an au pair and also that you have no criminal background.

Will the host family contribute to language school costs?

Many families are happy to contribute, but this is not a requirement from the families. Your agency will be able to explain to you what host families they have that can offer this.

As an au pair should I have a room for my own?

Yes you will , this is mandatory for the family to be able to be enrolled in the program, but sometimes it could happen that during holiday time you have to share the room with some children of your host family.

What will happen during holiday?

During holidays time , the host family will take the au pair with them paying for their whole stay, and they will continue carrying out their own tasks for the money agreed. Except for direct agreements between the parties, e.g. cases when it is planed that the au pair will stay at home or go on holiday with friends or like during Christmas and Easter time, the au pair could prefer going back home (at their own expense), for a time to be stipulated with the host family.
